Brent is the Associate Dean for Research and Assessment in the College of Education at the University of West Georgiai n Sport Management, Wellness, and Physical Education at the University of West Georgia . Prior to this appointment, he was the program coordinator of the Health and Physical Education Teacher Education program where he has served since 2007. He received his doctoral degree in Physical Education from the University of South Carolina and has been teaching health and physical education content since 1996. Brent has done more than 300 presentations at the national, state, and district levels, including more than 100 professional development workshops. Brent is a national presenter for the Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP), Physical Best, and Implementing the new National Standards, all supported by SHAPE America. He has received numerous awards throughout his career and is an annually invited guest presenter for several school districts in Georgia. Brent’s presentation topics primarily include effective instruction in physical education, fitness principles from exercise science, skill development and fitness activities in physical education, comprehensive school physical activity programs, and a variety of coaching topics. Brent has been a consistent presenter for Mark Manross Consulting for the past 10 years. He is also trained in how to implement the new SHAPE America Physical Education Standards which came out in 2024.
